Introducing the Miller's limited edition - very responsive lay up with added strength & stiffness
All you need to know about the Miller's limited edition lay up, proudly produced by Epic Kayaks:
What is it?
Innovation and R&D have always been an important part of Epic Kayaks. Over the last 18 months, Epic Kayaks have been working on a new lay up that can excel in the most demanding of ocean conditions.
The new Miller's limited edition lay up is an 'elite' lay up, i.e. full carbon light weight ski. With the introduction of 'next generation' construction materials and boat-building techniques, Epic Kayaks, have taken our existing world leading designs and matched it with a light weight and, more importantly, strong ski that has been tried and tested at the Miller's Run in Cape Town, South Africa. As the recent ICF World Championships in Durban South Africa demonstrated, these boats are made for proper ocean conditions, with not one Epic Miller's lay up being damaged on race day.

The details
1/ after 18 months of development, Epic Kayaks Australia have been granted the first export boats of the Miller's lay up, straight out of Cape Town, South Africa
2/ available in limited models (and in limited numbers), a container has arrived in Sydney in October and is available until stock run out
3/ the available models in the first container are: the v9, v10, and v14
4/ The recommended retail price of these skis are AUD$6,099, with delivery included to most metro cities on the East Coast of Australia (please contact Epic Kayaks Australia for transport costs / availability at all times)
5/ We are so happy with the balance of the skis (weight, strength, stiffness etc), we are already asking/hassling Epic Kayaks for another container. As you can appreciate, with a new factory, production will ramp up into 2026 but for now we are limited to what's in Australia - v9, v10 and v14
6/ the colour of the boat is white with red tips. Not to be confused with the existing Ultra lay up, the Epic bow stickers are red, but yes, this ski is a bit of a 'sleeper'. Besides a sticker change and some Titanium components visible from within the deck, all of the familiar Epic footplates, rudders etc are as per normal. It's what's underneath the hood that makes this boat very special.

So many questions (we'll try and address as much as we can but please let us know if you need further information or have any further questions).
We'll try and answer some questions our loyal customers may have - but shoot us over any further queries and we will expand on anything we need to:
a/ yes, this Miller's Limited Edition is a gel coat ski!
b/ the Ultra layup (Australian retail price AUD$5,250) is unaffected by this new lay up. The Ultra, being a predominately kevlar construction, is and will continue to be an extremely popular lay up
c/ the Elite lay up (Australian retail price AUD$5,850) is our current grey carbon ski. This lay up will also continue in 2025/26
d/ are the designs changing? No, we can confirm that the boat designs have not changed, this is just a new lay up, i.e. construction method / materials
e/ what are the weights of the skis? Between the three available models, v9, v10 and v14, the weights are generally around 10.2-10.5kg, depending on the model, but there is some variation (as the focus has been strength and stiffness, for increased performance on runs). Whilst weight is very important, we believe the stiffness of the craft and strength in general, provides an all round balanced and fantastic ski.
f/ this ski is made throughout with absolutely premium materials and 'new generation' boat building techniques. Even down to the components used including titanium screws, the ski looks & feels just right - on and off the water.
g/ will I feel more tippy in this lay up? The stability of a ski is in the eyes of the beholder but yes, in general, the more stiff and light a ski is, some paddlers will find it more 'agile' in the water. More advanced paddlers will enjoy the stiffness of the Miller's lay up, particularly in the runs.
In our opinion (Epic Kayaks Australia), there is definitely a place for different lay ups and price points within each model of the Epic range - a ski with some flex, a carbon ski & something even more agile & strong. Our suggestion is to try the lay ups side by side, in the conditions you will be paddling in, and you will soon know which lay up is right for you.
Please contact Epic Kayaks Australia on 0413 135 140 or 0451 094 063 to make a time/place or for any further questions regarding this limited edition lay up! Whilst allocations are tight, select dealers throughout Australia may also stock this lay-up throughout the season.
